What is SciFM

A Standing Forum for AI in Science

The SciFM conference series has quickly become a leading venue for foundation models and AI agents for scientific discovery and engineering innovation. Annual SciFM conferences feature engaging talks and panel discussions with thought leaders and world-renowned experts from national laboratories, academia, and leading AI companies, along with hands-on tutorials and interactive workshops. SciFM conferences have become a central venue for exploring the transformative role of scientific foundation models in advancing scientific discovery, technological innovation, and national competitiveness. To date, SciFM conferences have attracted over 1,000 attendees from 50 companies, 60 universities, 9 US National Labs, and two US government research labs.

The Series

SciFM History

The 2nd conference brought together researchers from  to examine how generative AI is reshaping scientific discovery. Organized by MICDE and Los Alamos National Laboratory, it spanned reasoning, creativity, evaluation standards, and the national ecosystem for AI-augmented science.

The inaugural conference, organized by MICDE at the University of Michigan, was the first in the nation dedicated to scientific foundation models (SciFM) as a field, setting up the themes and open questions for the series. It convened early research on foundation models for the molecular and physical sciences.
